In this assignment the students create a village by splitting off into several small groups and modeling a homestead into their section of a mound of dirt. Above students are seen doing initial earthworks on their groups' section.

Students use their hands and hand-tools, instead of bulldozers and months of work to quickly model roads, swails, ponds, etc. They then use ferns, other small vegetation and found objects to model trees, gardens, structures etc.

Doug Bullock comments on the overall characteristics and quality of the entire village. Between each group, there is a similarity and some unique differences in their approaches to modeling.

In addition to demonstrating excellent placements of elements this site has a nice road that winds up the contour and diverts the runoff water.

This site has an upland native tree forest to maintain the slope, soil and preserve local diversity. Notice the holes on the bottom left and right that allow clever access to the neighboring homesteads.

This site uses overturned planters to model dwellings and green houses.

Note: several other sites, besides the three shown on this page, were created.
