The students formally interviewed Henry. They asked him about all the people involved, needs, resources, goals, time constraints, etc.

Prior to preparing the base map for their client, the students did an exercise to develop their mapping skills. In this exercise the students "paced out" distances (on foot), used a compass and other tools/techniques to create a rough base map for a portion of La'akea's site.

The students split off into five groups of five individuals and worked closely together for many days. These students are shown preparing a base map that includes zones(possible) & sectors, plant list(existing), scale, orientation, etc.

After the base map, students overlaid additional information such as: zones & sectors, structures, earthworks, species, costs, time concerns, phase 1,2,3 options, materials - prices and amounts (ex. pump, tank, water, solar energy system), etc.

Another group prepares their site design.

Each group presents their design at the end of the course.
